Buaisou - Coasters
These coasters have been indigo-dyed by BUAISOU using the katazome stencil technique onto a piece of raw ramie fabric. The reverse is stamped with the production year of the Sukumo, just like dating a vintage wine.
Material: 100% hemp Size: h105 x w110 mm Colour: indigo
During Japan’s Edo period, indigo-blue was at peak popularity and there were some 1,800 indigo farmers in Tokushima prefecture. Today, there are six. BUAISOU is the sixth and youngest indigo farm in Tokushima and creates a natural dye that is a rich violet-blue colour known as “Japan Blue.” Their work helps revive two heritage crafts, farming and dyeing, which have traditionally been separate disciplines in Japan.
